Day 12 - April 16 - Ponferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo

Yet another great day. We walked most of the day with just tee shirts and short pants. Right now we are 10 miles into the walk with 5 miles to go. We are taking a break at a winery enjoying a bottle of a local wine made from the Mencia grape. Here is Emilio with Ada, the wine maker.

I learned later in the day that the Mencia grape is a Cabernet Franc adapted to the Bierzo region.

During the last third of the journey we passed through an area full of grape vines and beautiful countryside. The landscape seems to be getting better as we progress along the journey.
