Day 5 - April 9 - Terradillo de los Templarios to El Burgo Ranero

Today was a really tough day. Larry continues to go from town to town by car but the rest of us walk. We left the albergue at 7:35. It was windy and rainy. No sooner had we left the albergue that I realized that my gloves were no where to be found. I told the guys to start walking while I went back to the room to see if I had left the gloves there. It took me me no more than three minutes to go back, check the room without success, and go back outside. Ed and Emilio were gone but Jose remained behind waiting for me. We started walking fast but we could not see  Ed and Emilio in the distance. When we reached the next town 52 minutes later we still could  not see them. We went past the town and decided to turn back at the entrance of the town where we has seen a cafeteria. We spent at lest fifteen minutes there while drinking the coffee and telling the barista about our friends and giving him instructions in case they passed by. We thought that perhaps they had gone off the path to take pictures and we had passed them along the way. We left the coffee shops and when we exited the town we saw them in the distance ahead of us. It took us a while to catch up to them. We finally concluded that they has taken an alternate path otherwise there was no explanation for the turn of events.

It was windy and rainy all the way to Sahagun and beyond.  When we reached Sahagun around 11:30 AM we found a little store where we got a custom-made bocadillo de jamon y queso. Emilio requested butter on his but the girl told him that she could not do it due to food safety regulations so he had to apply the butter himself. We left the shop and started to eat the sandwich while we walked in the rain.. It turned to be our only food for the rest of the journey until we got dinner.

By the time we reached El Burgo Ranero, we were totally exhausted and drained of energy. All of us felt this way.

Tomorrow we are taking a bus half way to Leon. No one wants to do the 23 miles (27 Km) that it would take us to get there if we walked all the way. We will end up walking 20 Km and reaching the hotel. Lets hope we don't miss the bus...
